Comparing Business, Labor & Ideological PACs
From the 1996 to the 1998 election cycles,
all three of the broad PAC categories exhibited dynamic growth in spending
of 15 percent or more. The Ideology and Single-Issue PAC category clocked
the greatest growth in PAC spending, rising 30 percent in 1998 over the
previous election cycle. Spending by Labor PACs, the category with by far
the smallest absolute expenditures, grew 19 percent over the period. Finally,
the Business PAC category that dominates Texas PAC spending, increased
15 percent.
