The justices took $1.4 million from the top 25 businesses and business trade groups, or 13 percent of all the money that they raised. These business donors have huge financial interests in the full gamut of tort lawsuits that come before the justices. These include: toxic torts (Energy and Chemical donors); malpractice (Accounting and Medical donors); worker injuries (Energy, Construction and Chemical donors); and premises liability (Real Estate, Grocery and Restaurant donors). This top-25 list also includes three umbrella business groups that specialize in limiting the legal liabilities of businesses that harm consumers, workers or communities (the Texas Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce, Texans for Lawsuit Reform and the Texas Civil Justice League).
