A. By Election Cycle
- Bush raised $15.8 million in the 1994 campaign.
- Bush raised $25.2 million in the 1998 campaign.
B. PACs & Businesses vs. Individuals
- PACs & Businesses gave $5.2 million.
- Individuals gave $35.8 million.
Much of the individual money, however, is also business money, with at least $16 million of it coming from individuals who were identified as either business owners or top corporate executives.
C. By Donation Size
- 207 donors contributed $25,000 or more, totaling $10 million.
- 513 donors contributed between $10,000 and $24,999, totaling $6.7 million.
- 812 donors contributed between $5,000 and $9,999, totaling $4.7 million.
- 6,187 donors contributed between $1,000 and $4,999, totaling $9.9 million.
- 27,096 donors contributed between $100 and $999, totaling $5.9 million.
- 69,692 donors contributed between $1 and $99, totaling $1.9 million.
D. Texas vs. Out-of-State ContributionsBush raised 18 percent of the money for his two Texas gubernatorial campaigns outside of Texas. The percentage raised outside of Texas rose noticeably from 13 percent in the 1994 race to 21 percent in the 1998 race.
