Three-hundred twelve major party candidates seeking seats in the 81st Legislature reported raising $95 million to the Texas Ethics Commission during the 2008 election cycle (January 1, 2007 – December 31, 2008). This total includes $542,666 in “unitemized” contributions of $50 or less. Candidates do not identify the donors of these small checks.
During the 2008 election, 281 major-party candidates battled for 150 House seats while 31 major-party candidates ran for the 16 Senate seats on the ballot that year.
